A holiday apartment that works with kids
Whitsunday Reflections is 30 self-contained apartments on the hill above Airlie Beach. For families, the two and three bedroom apartments give everyone their own room, with an ensuite for every bedroom, a full kitchen for easy meals and a laundry so you're not packing a week's worth of clothes. The children's beds are in their own room, and the adults get the main bedroom with the freestanding bath.
The Airlie Beach Lagoon, the town's free, patrolled swimming lagoon with its own children's pools, is about ten minutes' walk down the hill.
Matching the apartment to your family
| Family | Apartment | Beds |
|---|---|---|
| Two adults, one or two children | Two bedroom | King in the main bedroom. The second bedroom is a king or two singles; tell us which when you book |
| Two adults, a baby | One bedroom or two bedroom | A cot goes on top of the guest limit, so a one bedroom works with a baby |
| Two adults, three or four children | Three bedroom | King, queen and two singles, sleeps 6, plus a rollaway bed for a seventh |
| Two families together | Three bedroom, or two apartments | See group accommodation |
Guest limits are 2 in a one bedroom, 4 in a two bedroom and 6 in a three bedroom, each plus one rollaway bed. Cots don't count towards the limit, one per apartment.
Cots, high chairs and the practical things
- Cot: $100 for the stay, one per apartment. Call to arrange it before you arrive.
- High chair: $50 for the stay.
- Rollaway bed: $100 for the stay, for an extra child over the guest limit.
- Laundry: a washer and dryer in every apartment.
- Kitchen: a full Bosch kitchen with a full-size fridge, so meals and snacks happen at home.
- Pool: a 20 metre lap pool with a shallow end and a heated spa. There's no lifeguard, so keep children in sight.
Getting around with small children
Whitsunday Reflections is at the top of a steep hill, so be ready for it. Walking down to town with a pram takes about ten minutes; walking back up is hard work. Most families take a taxi up the hill, about $8 to $13 with 13cabs on 13 22 27 or Uber, or bring a car.
No apartment has internal stairs, and apartments 14, 33, 42 and 45 are step-free from the car park, which helps with a pram. Ask for one of them when you book. There's no lift. Getting here covers the hill and the parking.
Family days in Airlie Beach
| Idea | Why it suits kids |
|---|---|
| Airlie Beach Lagoon | Free, patrolled and stinger-free all year, with a toddler wading pool and a children's pool. See things to do |
| Saturday markets | Breakfast, fruit and a wander on the foreshore, 7am to 1pm |
| Whitehaven Beach | A half-day cruise on a larger, steadier boat suits young children. See the Whitehaven Beach guide |
| The reef | Pontoon trips have ways to see the coral without swimming. See the reef guide |
| Cedar Creek Falls | A fresh-water swimming hole about 30 minutes' drive away |
Our tour desk at reception can book family trips, and guests who book direct get discounts on some local tours, in their confirmation email. From late October to May, marine stingers can be in the sea, so kids swim in the Lagoon or in a stinger suit.
Family stay questions
Do you have cots and high chairs?
Yes. A cot is $100 for the stay and a high chair $50. Cots don't count towards the guest limit, with one cot per apartment. Call 0416 048 131 to arrange them before you arrive.
Which apartment suits a family of four?
A two bedroom apartment sleeps four, with a king in the main bedroom and a king or two single beds in the second. Tell us which you'd like when you book so the right apartment is allocated.
Is there a pool for children?
Whitsunday Reflections has a 20 metre lap pool with a shallow end and a heated spa, with no lifeguard. The free Airlie Beach Lagoon in town, ten minutes' walk down the hill, has a toddler wading pool and a patrolled children's pool.
